How this works
What happens between a maker in Kashmir and a parcel at your door
Five steps, and the two or three places where we are honest about the limits.
The maker is verified before anything is listed
We check who someone is and that they make what they say they make — identity documents, and evidence of the craft itself. Their page says exactly which of those we have seen.
The listing is read by a person
Every listing is reviewed before it goes up. Photographs that do not show the actual piece, or claims we cannot stand behind, are sent back with a reason.
You buy from Harud, not from the maker
We are the seller of record. Your payment is with us, your invoice is from us, and anything that goes wrong is ours to put right. You never have to contact the artisan.
The piece comes to our hub first
Nothing ships from a seller’s house. It comes to Srinagar, we open it, and we check it against what you actually bought — the material, the size, the finish, the thing in the photograph.
Then it ships, from us
Packed and dispatched under our own name, with tracking. If a piece fails our check it goes back to the maker and you are refunded; we do not pass on a piece we would not have bought.
What inspection does not mean
A promise that covers everything is a promise that covers nothing. Here is where ours stops.
We check the piece, not a laboratory result
A person inspecting a shawl can tell you it is hand-woven, that it matches its photographs and that it is what was described. They cannot tell you the micron count of the fibre. Where a lab report exists, we say so and show it; where it does not, we do not pretend otherwise.
Edibles cannot be inspected by eye
Saffron is the obvious case. What we can check is the seal, the weight and the batch; purity is a laboratory question, and a label claiming it will point at a test rather than at our opinion.
A badge always points at something
Every label on this site is backed by a document or an inspection we hold. If we cannot show you what justifies it, it is not there.
If something is wrong
You have 7 days from delivery to ask to send a piece back, from the order page. We handle it — not the maker. A commission is different: it can be called off while the piece does not yet exist, and the order page says exactly what happens to your deposit before you press anything.
